Do you have Olympic fever? It’s the 23rd Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, in the Republic of Korea. PyeongChang is due east of Seoul in the Gangwon Province and is a popular vacation spot for South Koreans. A few of the events (curling, biathlon, luge, ski jumping, and alpine skiing) have started already, and the extravagant opening ceremonies are set for tonight. Look for 4 new disciplines in existing sports this year: big air snowboarding (snowboarders launching off of massive jumps and performing tricks in the air, aiming to attain sizable height and distance, all while securing a clean landing – yikes!), mixed doubles curling, mass start speed skating (up to 24 skaters line up and start together, racing 16 laps with 4 intermediate sprint thrown in), and mixed team alpine skiing. Check your local listing to watch the excitement of 102 events in fifteen sports disciplines through February 25th.
