Coming October 14, 2019. More than 100 years and still running! Yes, the Guelph Thanksgiving Day Races were founded in 1894, making them one of the 10 oldest road races in the world. Every Canadian Thanksgiving Day (that’s right, Canada has a Thanksgiving, and it came before the United State’s and is celebrated the second Monday of October), Guelph (pronounced gwelf), a city in southwestern Ontario city, about 60 miles west of Toronto, hosts a one-mile, a 3K, and a 5K, in addition to 2 races for the kiddos. For the ultra-ambitious, there’s also a 3-in-1, that’s 3 consecutive races: first run the one miler, then the 5K, and finally the 3K. The races are chip timed and take runners and walkers on a loop course through Exhibition Park. For a century+ tradition, check out the Guelph Thanksgiving Day Races.
