The opening ceremonies are tonight, but the US women’s football (aka soccer to us Americans) team is already off to a great start with their 2-0 win over New Zealand. It’s the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and this is the first time in the event’s 120-year history that the games will be held in a South American country. There will be more than 11,000 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees participating in 28 sports. This year 2 new events have been added: golf and rugby sevens (a seven-player version of rugby union). Events will be spread out daily through August 21st, so be sure to set aside some time to watch your favorite sports!
