Coming 2016. Start training now for the Great Pacific Race of 2016. This is an extreme endurance race with ocean row boats (yes, ROW boats!) and crews of 2 or 4 people competing to cross the Pacific Ocean from Monterey, California to Waikiki, Hawaii. Last year’s inaugural race had 13 crews, of which 7 successfully made to Hawaii, and the winning time was 43 days, 5 hours, and 30 minutes. The distance is anywhere from 2,400 miles to 3,000 miles, depending on the route taken along with the winds, waves, and current. The expected duration is between 30 and 80 days, and teams are required to carry everything needed for the journey with them and are not allowed to use sails nor engines to move the boat. Wow, a tough way to get to Hawaii!
