Coming June 12 – July 13, 2014. Jogar futebol! Or “Play soccer!” in this year’s FIFA World Cup host country’s official language. With a record five World Cup titles to its name and the distinction of being the only country to have played in all 19 previous editions of the tournament, Brazil is definitely a football (soccer) powerhouse. The first FIFA World Cup took place in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo, in 1930 and included 13 countries from three continents. By contrast, this year, marks the 20th FIFA World Cup and includes teams from 32 countries from six continents. Matches will be held in 12 cities across Brazil, so be sure to check out when your favorite team will be playing!
