Coming August 6, 2016. An open water swim race in the middle of the city?! Yes, it’s the Dublin City Liffey Swim! Started in 1920 to show the citizens of Dublin that the Liffey was clean enough to swim in, it has grown to be quite a spectacle as people line the boardwalks, quays and bridges to watch the more than 400 people compete. The course is 2,200 meters downstream in salt water (with a tide!) and travels under the 12 key bridges of Dublin City. Note that if you live in Leinster, you must complete six races prior to this one in order to qualify (overseas participants are exempt!), so be sure to plan ahead!
