Coming August 10, 2017. A weekend of western entertainment! It’s the 84th Annual Omak Stampede in the heart of the picturesque, high desert valley of north-central Washington state. Expect parades, carnival games, and the ever-popular bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bull dogging, steer wrestling, and barrel racing. Plus, celebrating Native American culture, the Indian Encampment and Pow Wow, sponsored by the Colville Confederated Tribes, features an authentic teepee village, dancing, drumming and singing competitions and a Native American game of chance. The weekend culminates with the World Famous Suicide Race, inspired by the traditional mountain races where Indian men proved their skill and courage on horseback. This exciting race involves horses and riders racing 225 feet down a steep bluff to the Okanogan river, swimming or wading across, and dashing 500 yards to the finish line in the center of the stampede arena. A thrilling way to finish the weekend!
