Galloping Gertie Half Marathon

August 8, 2017

Currently available: $70+  Visit their site to learn more

Coming August 12, 2017. Do you know Gertie? Galloping Gertie is the nickname for the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington that famously swayed, twisted, and collapsed into Puget Sound back in 1940 on a particularly windy day. The bridge has since been rebuilt (and is structurally sound now!) and is the location of the Galloping Gertie Half Marathon this weekend. This chip-timed half includes an elevation gain of a little over 1,100 feet and takes you from Gig Harbor across the bridge to Tacoma and back with scenic views of the Sound, Mount Rainier, and the Olympic Mountain Range. A 10K run and 5K run/walk are also offered. There will be medals for all as well as a post-race party and beer garden. Enjoy a fun, challenging race with spectacular views!
