Nothing bad about this national park. The Badlands National Park in South Dakota has extraordinary scenery, striking rock formations rich with fossils, the largest undisturbed mixed grass prairies in the United States, and incredible wildlife like bison, bighorn sheep, prairie dogs and the endangered black-footed ferret. The term badlands is descriptive of the park’s soft sedimentary rock that has been eroded by wind and water forming the spectacular spires, gullies and ridges seen throughout the park. Be sure to check out the Paleontology Lab in the Visitor Center to watch paleontologists at work and learn more about the scientific discoveries being made.
