The best way to see the oldest continually surviving topical rainforest on earth. The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway smoothly glides you over the canopy of this Wet Tropics World Heritage Area just outside of downtown Cairns, Australia. The 6-person gondolas continuous run the 7.5 km from the Smithfield Terminal, making 2 stops, and ending at Kuranda village. Be sure to get off at the Barron Falls Rainforest Station to venture into the Rainforest Interpretation Centre and take the boardwalk loop to see the falls and explore this living museum, dating back millions of years with plants that were found at the time of the dinosaurs. It should be noted that great care was taken in the planning and construction of the Skyrail. No roads were built, and workers had to walk in to the remote tower sites each day, carrying their equipment. Stations were designed to blend in with the surrounding rainforest to minimize environmental impact and were built in pre-existing clearings. Kudos to Skyrail for its numerous accreditations and certificates recognizing its commitment to the environment. It’s this commitment that ensures that all will be able to fly over the natural beauty of this lush tropical rainforest with the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway!
