A maze of a different kind! Actually, it’s technically not a maze, it’s a labyrinth, and more specifically it’s the Lavender Labyrinth at the Cherry Point Farm and Market in Shelby, Michigan, a mile from the Lake Michigan shoreline. This asymmetrical design is a continuous circuit from which you can’t get lost, and it’s in full bloom now through August. Visitors will be delighted with the scent of lavender and the vivid color along with other herbs (yes, lavender is an herb) and the native Michigan plants like purple vetch, clover, black-eyed Susans, and wild hollyhocks. It takes about an hour to reach the center, and the journey through the spiral pattern is supposed to be symbolic of one’s path in life. Once you’re done with the labyrinth, enjoy the rest of the farm with fresh produce, homemade cherry pie, and other goodies. A feast for all the sense!
