A TrailblazerGirl’s paradise! Smith Rock State Park in central Oregon is an impressive sight with towering rocks and a winding river (aptly named, Crooked River!), making it a popular backdrop for movies like Wild, Swordfish, The Postman, and a John Wayne western called Rooster Coburn. But the real star of the show are the tuff and basalt sheer cliffs that made Smith Rock the birthplace of modern American sport climbing. If rock climbing or bouldering are not your thing, there are miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking as well as access to the river for angling and fly fishing. Wildlife is abundant with golden eagles, mule deer, river otters, beavers, birds of prey, and warning – rattlesnakes. THE place to visit when in central Oregon!
