Hungry? The next time you take a hike through Washington, be sure to take Christopher Nyerges’ Foraging Washington with you to help you pick some edible plants! This soon to be released book focuses on plants that can be eaten and are commonly found in the Evergreen State. The book is filled with clear, color photos of each plant, detailed descriptions, where and when to find them, tools need to harvest them, and preparation. You’ll find common plants like dandelions and watercress and more obscure plants like pineapple weed (a relative of the chamomile plant and it makes a nice cup of tea) and glasswort aka pickleweed (young stems can be eaten raw, cooked, or pickled), to name just a few. Foraging Washington is a useful reference tool for finding the bounty of edible plants throughout Washington.
