Within the tiny country of Luxembourg that houses one of the three official capitals of the European Union and the seat of the European Court of Justice, is a popular hiking route known as the Mullerthal Trail. Spectacular natural and cultural highlights in Luxembourg’s Little Switzerland area await along the 112 km which is composed of 3 distinct routes. Route 1 starts at the medieval town of Echternach, traveling 38 km through impressive rock formations, dense forests, and bucolic pastures and is rated at a difficulty level of medium. Route 2 is more challenging with strenuous climbs over the 37 km but affords breathtaking vistas, more rock formations, and quaint villages. Route 3 is 37 km with several castles and ruins, as well as picturesque valleys and streams. The routes are all connected but can also be hiked separately. Whether you have one day or six, the Mullerthal Trail is worth exploring when you are visiting Luxembourg!
