Canada’s oldest National Park. Interestingly, it all started by accident. As the story goes… in the fall of 1883, three Canadian Pacific Railway workers stumbled across a cave containing hot springs on the slopes of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, not far from the Banff railway station (named after a town in Scotland). From that beginning, the Banff National Park was born, Canada’s first national park and the second in North America. Spanning 6,641 square kilometers (2,564 square miles) of valleys, mountains, glaciers, forests, meadows and rivers, Banff National Park has it all and is one of TrailblazerGirl’s most favorite places on Earth.
