The newest one! The New River Gorge National Park and Preserve in southeastern West Virginia is now officially the 63rd National Park and the 20th National Preserve in the United States. About an hour’s drive from Charleston, West Virginia, it’s comprised of about 7,000 acres of marked trailheads and another 65,000 acres of backcountry trails. As the largest gorge in the Appalachian Mountains, activities include rock climbing, whitewater rafting, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, hunting, and camping. Congratulation to our newest National Park, the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve!
