As if a trip to the Matterhorn isn’t special enough…how about an overnight stay in an igloo with views of the Matterhorn! Yes, the snow and ice artists at Igloo Village have been busy creating their one-of-a-kind “ice hotel” in the Swiss resort village of Zermatt, home to that over 14,000 foot picturesque behemoth, straddling the Swiss-Italian border. Open through April, the theme this year is an underwater world complete with wild animals. You can choose to stay in one of the interconnected igloos in the main village or be adventurous and build your own independent igloo next to the village (don’t worry, there’s an igloo expert to guide you through the process!). Sip on Glühwein (mulled wine) at the open-air Igloo Bar, enjoy cheese fondue for dinner, and go for a nighttime snowshoe hike before nodding off to bed in your snug sleeping bag. The Igloo Village Zermatt is a winter experience not to be missed!
