Yes, it’s summer, but it’s confusingly cold in San Francisco right now, so TrailblazerGirl tested the Women’s Wonderland 30 by Sierra Designs out in the field this weekend and was very thankfully protected from the climate (because honestly we forgot to bring a backup). The Women’s Wonderland 30 is what they call a “3-season” sleeping bag, meaning that you can use it all year except probably in frigid winter conditions. And yes, this really was designed for women. The folks at Sierra Designs have taken into account that (1) women sleep colder and so they added extra insulation in the core area, and (2) a women’s frame is different so they made the proportions between the shoulder and the hip to fit a women and thus improve the efficiency for keeping it warm. The other little features that we found made a big difference: it’s super light at just 2 lbs 9 oz, you can cinch-up the hood around you face to keep your head warm, and there’s a very sensibly zippered vent along the legs so you can let off a little steam if you get too hot. All in all, this was a great piece of gear, even for a San Francisco summer.
