Coming March 8, 2014. Grab 4 of your favorite TrailblazerGirl-friends and sign up for the Honolulu Rainbow Ekiden! The very first ekiden originated in Japan and was a long-distance relay running race held in 1917, and was run over three days between the old Japanese capital of Kyoto and the modern capital of Tokyo, a distance of 508 km, to celebrate the anniversary of the moving of the capital to Tokyo. This one, in beautiful Honolulu, is a modified version with a much more manageable 5K course. Your 5-person relay team travels from Kapiolani Park up to the Diamond Head lookout point and back, all with gorgeous ocean views. A treat awaits you at the finish line with the “WaikiKitchen” Food Festival with food wagons, local plate lunches, and gourmet restaurants.
