Coming June 10, 2018. The world’s largest and oldest ultra marathon race…it’s the Comrades Marathon! Dating back to 1921, the race was initially started as a way to commemorate the South African soldiers killed during World War I, and the spirit of the race is to “celebrate mankind’s spirit over adversity”. This ultra marathon is approximately 89 km (approx. 56 miles) and is run between the capital of the Kwazulu-Natal province, Pietermaritzburg, and the coastal city of Durban. It alternates annually between the “up run” starting in Durban and the “down run” starting in Pietermaritzburg. The 2018 run will be a “down run”. The route includes several large hills and provides an incredible challenge for any runner. Yes, it’s not until June of next year, but the field is capped at 20,000, and to-date, more than a third of the available entry spaces have been filled, so sign up now for this iconic race!
