An impressive building for an impressive collection. The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek is an art museum in central Copenhagen that was founded by Carl Jacobsen, the owner of the Carlsberg Breweries, the fifth largest brewery group in the world. Since its opening to the public in 1897, the museum houses over 10,000 works of art, spanning over 6000 years, including Scandinavia’s largest collection of ancient art from Greece, Rome, and Etruria as well as modern art from 19th and 20th century France and Denmark. The Winter Garden is particularly impressive with its mosaic floors, tall palms, and fountain, all topped by a dome made of copper and wrought iron. While the outstanding collection of French and Danish sculptures are highlighted in rooms filled with natural lighting. Spend the day (or two!), enjoying and appreciating the personal collection of Carl Jacobsen at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek.
