Discover “hidden” Venice with a local. Venice Free Walking Tour is organized by a nonprofit group that wants to share the history, culture, and special stories of Venice. In about 2 hours, you’ll cover roughly 2 miles at a leisurely pace and learn stories about Venice that you won’t find in your typical guidebook. With our wonderful guide Simone, we learned how to determine whether a street was originally a canal, the origin and meaning of those elaborate masks that we thought were only associated with the popular Carnival of Venice, little-known facts about the Rialto Bridge, where the local go for the best gelato, and much more.
